Baklava!

NOW THIS IS BAKLAVA! for those who asked me about it... the idea of making this sounds crazy to anyone who isnt as crazy as us. for we got this "recipe" from one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter book and ling was curious about it thus we decided to try baking it. first time trying out, have no idea whats the authentic one tastes like. but this version that we made still taste very good!
and we're back to our F & N days.. reminiscing those days with Ms Chang.
a mixture of nuts - brazil nuts, hazel nuts, cashew nuts, walnuts & almonds

with honey and cinnamon as the flavoring

this pastry consists of 8 layers of nuts and puff pastry inter-layering. really tedious work! and one by one we layer the Baklava for about 2 hours... im tip toeing not cuz im short, but i needed more force to roll the rough puff pastry!

finally in the oven after long long time of rolling the dough and putting the nuts mixture
min's back to studying.. poor thing. haha! and ling & I made raspberry pancakes in the meanwhile for our brunch at 4pm?

after about 50 mins of baking, our Baklava is out! smells really really good!! with cinnamon and roasted honey smell..

and thats our layering job! im so proud of it! rolling each layer out is seriously no fun. it's enough for a gym work out. Baklava is nutty base, with honey and cinnamon sweetness in it. a little googey and moist in the layers cuz of the sauce. the top pastry is obviously crispy like Apple Struddel style but the bottom layers are soaked in nutty+cinnamon+honey taste.. for first timers like us, i think our Baklava was a success!! it tasted really good! no wonder it is mentioned in the DH book! our families love it too! personally, i really like it! definitely will make it again sometime!

"Please . . ." her expression was the hottest mixture of cute pleading and raw seduction that he'd ever seen. "I'll be your baklava slave until I die."

He scowled. "My what?"

"Baklava slave. I make the best you've ever tasted and I'll keep you supplied in it until you're fat and old."

"I don't eat baklava."

"That's because you've never had mine. Unless you're allergic to nuts, you'll love it."
