New Jersey; Our Great Adventure to The Great Adventure

Friday, June 27, 2008

Several weeks ago we went to New Jersey Six Flags Great Adventure.

there were quite a bit of blunders trying to get to New Jersey and coming back to Albany. what that supposed to take only about 5 hours drive ended up became 8 hours drive to New Jersey. obviously, we got really lost in the high ways and cities. we got frustrated till a point when the temperature outside was scorching high yet we couldn't on the air-condition so as to save gas. hence, it felt as though we're in a mobile oven. our driver friend couldn't adapt to the hot weather and it was seriously affecting his mood plus the constant merry-go-round we had on the express way. getting there was a bit of adventure, but at least we got to see a city side of New Jersey! cool!

when we finally reached Great Adventure, everything was good except the weather was CRAZILY HOT. so much hotter than Singapore that you can't even imagine it! the heat just made me perspire like as if I'm in sauna! Upon reaching Great Adventure, we headed for the large roller coasters first before attempting other mini rides. (we got in for free cuz we're employees of Six Flags.) Apparently, Great Adventure is one of the largest theme park in the world and has the highest roller coaster in the world too! of cuz it felt great to be in something "largest" or "best" in the world. hahaha!! the photos shall show it!

Nitro was our first ride. it had many steep plunges and it is a large roller coaster! Fun!

Gotham City Park -- all the Bat Man and stuff..
Dark Knight -- an indoor roller coaster

in the midst of all the screaming and theme park music, there sits an old man relaxing in a serene location in the park. the scenery in this park is great because it's near some lake or something.

the great El Toro! I love this ride! It has the steepest drop of any wooden roller coaster in the world, at 76 degrees. It is the third tallest (188 ft) and third fastest (70 mph) wooden roller coaster in the world. It is also the first wooden roller coaster! just walking pass it makes this architecture looks spectacular! this ride is sooo freaking fast i didn't have time to lift my head up after any deep plunge!

Medusa roller coaster! another long ride! nothing like wad we had elsewhere! the coasters here are all so long and fulfilling! not like "huh? tat's it? so short?"

beautiful architect of El Toro! everything wooden!

Sky Coaster in the background! this is a shorter version of ours.

vivian leona and dave on the left side

the view from up there. beautiful! too bad it's a bit too fast I couldn't snap enough photos!

KingDa Ka!!! this is the BEST ride in the ENTIRE park!! it is the tallest fastest scariest ride above all others in the world!! the train travels 128 miles per hour (206km/h) in 3.5 seconds! At the end of the lauch track, the train climbs the main top hot tower reaching a height of 456 feet (45 storeys high!!) look at the green roller coaster in the air! we travel vertically upwards at super high speed and drop down 45 storeys like jumping down building!

see a train at the tip of the curve? omg! 45 storeys high up!
Sky Coaster! 3 2 1 Fly!

KingDa Ka from the outside of the park! this is really the main attraction in Great Adventure! everyone goes there for this earth-shaking ride! so fast and so high and so steep! I was really nervous when I was queueing for this ride. seriously, it felt as though I was taking my O Level results. haha!

superman ride behind us! heard people died from it before!
thats the end of the day at Great Adventure! we only spent 5 hours there after 8 hours of driving home. NOT FORGETTING we were going to have another 7 hours of drive home!! thus, most of the time we're in the car actually. hahaha! and we got lost going home again!! this time was worse becuz it was dark and we got so lost that we hit New Jersey City and then the airport there! then we drove into wrong exit and ended up in a pitch dark and eerie town, which we guess the electricity was down due to the Tornado storm. tornado storm!! strong wind and rain were expected, even hail storm! luckily we weren't caught in it! it was a great adventure man!!

the night drive home was bad and a little scary.. cuz our driver friend was exhausted after the day's activity.. we stopped a couple of times for him to catch his sleep before hitting the road again.. in the meanwhile, we were still getting lost. after much struggle with sleep and tiredness, we finally got home around 4am in the morning! we had to wake up at 8am the next morning to work! great adventure huh! i'm glad we made it thru ALIVE and went to work still. haha! this is one road trip that i will always remember man! fun in many ways and it is so memorable!

7 weeks in New York already! I can't believe time starts to pick up so fast when everything is nearly perfect here. We've been working really hard here, making Sky Coaster the best ride in the whole park. hahaha and i think we did it by looking at how our supervisors praise us in front of all. it felt so good to be appreciated! the freedom that I've tasted is so sweet and overwhelming. the ability to make decisions by myself makes me feel like i'm finally really in control of my life. not like i've been trapped back home. it's just a different feeling to depend on my own.. earning my own money and using it for a living.. i feel like a partial adult, yet struggle to remain youthful.. cuz being an adult is something i wanna delay. i still don't have the courage to hold all responsibility. right here, i'm like a partial adult cuz we have our kind and awesome landlord -Mic- to take care of us. He advises us like a father and take care of us like a mother. he's really great. Our work supervisors are great too, always making sure we're fine and loving life. through them, I've learnt to find joy in everything i do.. even sweeping the floor. it's really amazing how the Americans here feel cheerful and happy everyday. even when the day is screwed and atmosphere is tensed, there's still a smile at the end of the day. how nice! in singapore, it never happen. i love working here!

since I'm into my 7th week here, it's natural to make good friendships and find more identities with other people. there are China Chinese, Turks, Taiwanese, Indonesians and of cuz Singaporeans here. I've learnt a little things about everyone everyday. Every night after work is our time to mingle among ourselves and gossip about the day. we'll share food we bought from walmart and discuss what's cheap to buy. we'll think of where to go during our days off. that's what I like best. haha.. it feels so good to walk around the motel and know almost everyone and drop some talks along the way. and everyday after work, Carol, Leona and I will wonder "what's the flavours at Martha's Ice Cream today?" so we'll seek to taste different flavours every time we visit Martha's. small little things like these are the saddest when we're missing the time here. i can almost imagine myself missing the time here when i'm back home. even the word "home" confuses me now. Martha's Motel room 104 feels like "home" to me already.

oh well.. time here is good. and sadly, it's ending soon. 3 and a half months suddenly feel so short! I have another 8 weeks more to go here. I shall cherish every moment I can! when situations were pretty dull, I will inevitably think of the chinese song saying "piao yang guo hai wo chi de qi ku!" hahaha! yeah.. seek joy in everything u do. that explains best.

I'm already imagining myself missing the times here! arhh! 8 more weeks to enjoy this!

Johnny Rockets!

Tuesday, June 24, 2008

one of those energetic days that we go out shopping after a long day at work. a few of us walk to Lake George factory outlet for some retail therapy. it so happened that carol and I wore the same outfit that night! just a different colour hoodie from Tommy Hilfiger and we wore the same colour shorts! mid way through the shopping, 2 more girls bought the same hoodie and we now form the Hilfiger gang. haha! it's only $20 for my hoodie! omg so cheap!! soo soo sooo comfy!

fiona and SJ
4 of us ladies going to Lake George factory outlet. so fun!
and we walked pass this flatten tortoise! so poor thing! it must have been rolled over by some car on the road!
this is call.. jump of joy!
beautifil scenery behind.. thats where Lake George is

yeah! the Hilfiger gang! we all have the same hoodie!
then we went pass Johnny Rockets! it's a new open restaurant in Great Escape! it has the old Diner style and it's so cool! somewhat like Diner Dash in Yahoo Games! the same outfit, chairs and floor! so fun!! very old Americanish! the food they serve are obviously super unhealthy burgers, fries, shakes and malts. a much better version of Billy Bombers.
it's pretty popular here. it was even advertised in the newspaper!
suddenly the waitresses came out from dunno where and started dancing to some 70s song! so fun!!
they have this amazing box on the table that plays the sound for each TV channel on the wall behind and all around us. so we can switch to wadever channel and listen along with the TV!
look at the design of this place! so diner dash lookalike! and the waitresses started dancing to the songs again! so cute!

our rootbeer float. it's soooo delicious! and look at the foam! it's shaped so nicely
our shake and malt! chocolate and strawberry! so much better than Singapore's billy bombers! this has chunks of ice cream in it and it's not too sweet.

Li Jun and Fiona
here comes our unhealthy dinner/supper! thick burger with double beef platter, bacon sticks, melted cheese and range sauce
super oily and fattening but oh so nice!!
can't wait to sink our teeth into the burgers!!
look at the thick beef!!
Fiona and Li Jun

that's all! i've yet to upload the photos for New Jersey again.. the stupid internet here is so lousy. 120 people leeching on a 54mbps internet is so lame. it takes soo long just to upload one photo here. yet, i have many more photos still pending to be uploaded. arhh!!!
