I'm thinking of Glens Falls recently, wondering how does it look like in winter. how is martha's? the great escape? sky coaster? how do they all look like in snow? I bet those who have been there with me have thought of this once a while too. Thanks to Dave, he sent me photos of those familiar places that look so alien in these photos. At first look, I couldnt even recognize martha's! and doing Sky Coaster now must feel like a flying snow man!

I'm still waiting to see the frozen Lake George, the lake that Dave brought us to do cliff jumping. haha. I can't imagine it being frozen!
Lake George
Recognize this? =) the back door to the Great Escape
Boomerang
Martha's! it's all covered in snow now. looks soooo different

Arrested Adulthood

Thursday, January 08, 2009

I don't want a job that confines me to four walls for eight hours.

I don't want a job that forces me to sit there for eight hours staring at the computer.

I want to talk to people, go out into the real world to participate physically in real discussion.
NOT discussions over emails, msn, phone calls and faxes. No.

I don't want a job that only allows me to see the blue sky when I rush to work in the morning, lunch time at 12pm and going off work.

Even when it's raining, I don't even know! because I would be confined in the cubicle! But there are windows! yeah they are usually tinted for only-God-knows-why reasons.

I can't enjoy those small talks during office hours, gossiping about the best food near by, blah blah. Gossips and chats that are brainless and aimless.

Sitting on the arm chair for eight hours, staying in the air condition for eight hours, talking to faceless people, dressed up nicely as office lady.. so? only for the four walls and your fellow blue face colleagues' appreciation.

and the satisfaction that I get from the job? yeah! I've clinched a deal over the email and faxes. and... how does my client look like? oh! square face with Arial font size 12. wow! definitely satisfied!

sigh.

even if it is an office job, please let me see the sun and let the rays be upon my skin for a little vitamin D. let the people I communicate with have faces, voices and not Arial font size 12.

I'm afraid that's life for a regular Singaporean. What am I going to do after graduation?!?!
FOUR more months to go... what should I do?!

Suddenly, Prof Ho's lecture on arrested adulthood is so relevant to me. I am trapped in an arrested adulthood. I don't wanna grow up. I want to be known as a youth and not 'working adult'. I want my oscillation between youth and adulthood be prolonged.

Time is forcing me to grow up... and of cuz that Big Brother up there too.

Lychee Sponge cake

Friday, December 12, 2008

really really soft sponge cake.. with lychee in the cream. it kinda looks like raw chicken in cream.

but it's nice. soft and moist.

many little cakes. on my way to imitating the high tea style kinda display. haha

Baklava!

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

NOW THIS IS BAKLAVA! for those who asked me about it... the idea of making this sounds crazy to anyone who isnt as crazy as us. for we got this "recipe" from one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter book and ling was curious about it thus we decided to try baking it. first time trying out, have no idea whats the authentic one tastes like. but this version that we made still taste very good!
and we're back to our F & N days.. reminiscing those days with Ms Chang.
a mixture of nuts - brazil nuts, hazel nuts, cashew nuts, walnuts & almonds

with honey and cinnamon as the flavoring

this pastry consists of 8 layers of nuts and puff pastry inter-layering. really tedious work! and one by one we layer the Baklava for about 2 hours... im tip toeing not cuz im short, but i needed more force to roll the rough puff pastry!

finally in the oven after long long time of rolling the dough and putting the nuts mixture
min's back to studying.. poor thing. haha! and ling & I made raspberry pancakes in the meanwhile for our brunch at 4pm?

after about 50 mins of baking, our Baklava is out! smells really really good!! with cinnamon and roasted honey smell..

and thats our layering job! im so proud of it! rolling each layer out is seriously no fun. it's enough for a gym work out. Baklava is nutty base, with honey and cinnamon sweetness in it. a little googey and moist in the layers cuz of the sauce. the top pastry is obviously crispy like Apple Struddel style but the bottom layers are soaked in nutty+cinnamon+honey taste.. for first timers like us, i think our Baklava was a success!! it tasted really good! no wonder it is mentioned in the DH book! our families love it too! personally, i really like it! definitely will make it again sometime!

"Please . . ." her expression was the hottest mixture of cute pleading and raw seduction that he'd ever seen. "I'll be your baklava slave until I die."

He scowled. "My what?"

"Baklava slave. I make the best you've ever tasted and I'll keep you supplied in it until you're fat and old."

"I don't eat baklava."

"That's because you've never had mine. Unless you're allergic to nuts, you'll love it."

Baking with Murni

Friday, December 05, 2008

exams over! of cuz fun is here! met up with Murni, my roomie in Martha's 104, for a little get-together. we lunched and shopped -- and I bought 'Acheron' the moment I finished reading it! omg it's such a gooood book!! I smiled laughed and cried with the characters in it. it's fantastic! thanks to ling~! anyways, murni and I went back my home to do some baking. she missed the kitchen! hence, she's the one doing all the washing. im so mean. haha!we made chocolate chip muffins.. the same thing.. it's the easiest, fastest and most convenient recipe

and we realized time was on our side, we did one more.. kinda a failure in appearance. it supposed to look like butterfly on top.. butttt.. some of them turn of to be clams...lips...wadever...
ok this was a squashed up one by murni.. haha the "wings" were still too crispy from baking. should have waited for it to cool down more~
sis made this -_- looks like snail to me..

some of the nicer one.. although not so presentable still..
we were imitating this!!! but ours look so different from the book's!! why do cook books always make things look easier than written!! oh well, at least we had fun!!
